About
The Permian Basin Regional Fire Academy is a 6-month hybrid firefighter certification program focused with the volunteer firefighter in mind. Lessons are completed online following a recommended schedule and hands on skills training sessions are held one weekend per month. Upon successful completion of the academy, firefighters will receive a Teex Certification for Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and Hazmat Awareness and Operations. Additionally, the fire academy is SFFMA accredited with the option to challenge the TCFP test upon completion. Efforts will be made to provide testing on site for SFFMA. Instruction and assistance can be provided for TCFP testing and New Mexico reciprocity.
Cost and Equipment Requirements
The cost of the academy is $1,000 which includes academy shirts, pants, and IFSTA Essentials manual. The cadet will need to provide a laptop or tablet for online course access and testing purposes. The cadet will also be required to provide his or her own structural turnout gear that meets NFPA 1971 requirements, as well as an SCBA.

For fire departments in the Permian Basin and mutual aid partners surrounding the Permian Basin, the $1,000 cost of the academy will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the academy through generous grant funding from the Permian Strategic Partnership. If you are unable to cover the cost up front please reach out to us by email to discuss options.
